Around 70,000 years ago, something happened that changed everything.
Humans weren't the strongest species on Earth. We weren't the fastest, or the toughest. But we developed a unique ability that no other species had mastered in the same way: we learned to tell stories—and to believe in them.
Yuval Noah Harari calls this the Cognitive Revolution: our ability to talk about things that don't physically exist—things like gods, nations, companies, or money.
No one has ever actually seen "Germany." And, biologically speaking, a banknote is no more valuable than a piece of old paper. These things only work because, collectively, we believe in them.
What's so fascinating is that it's precisely this shared belief in imagined realities that allows us to cooperate in enormous groups—with thousands, even millions, of complete strangers.
And that's exactly what narrative now is about: stories, why they matter, and the people who tell them.
